Running, jumping, and riding your bike all require your leg bones
to move. What makes these bones move? Bones
can't move themselves. That is the job of the striated
muscles.
Striated muscles are also called skeletal muscles since their job
is to move the skeleton. They are part of the muscular
system. The word striated means
striped. It comes from the light and dark muscle tissue that
makes striated muscles look striped.
Striated muscles are attached to bones by tissues called tendons. Tendons are like stretchy
cords that move as the muscle moves causing the bone to move
also. Our striated muscles and tendons work as a team to
move the bones of our skeleton.
